The First Deen Intensive

A 2004 Rihla Session

There is a genuine thirst for reliable, balanced, traditional knowledge of the deen al Islam (Islam as a way of life) among our youth. What is needed is not simply information, but an experience of Islam as a transformative way of life. The Deen Intensives bring committed students together with teachers who embody traditional sciences. During these gatherings students not only acquire knowledge but also experience Islam as a practice that is spiritually transformative. Study, worship, and interaction with knowledgeable and committed Muslims of exemplary practice create strong enthusiasm for on-going study and living of the deen.

The Deen Intensives started as a Dar al Islam program in 1996.  Since then, the idea has caught on a life of its own.  Such programs are now conducted in various locations in North America and Europe.  An Annual, month long program, known as the Rihla, has been conducted at the Dar al Islam site as well as other places throughout the world.
