The Teachers' Institutes

The Teachers' Institutes are two-week residential programs for educators. They normally begin on the first Sunday evening following July 4th.  The program is intensive, and covers the faith, civilization and world-view of Islam. There are morning and evening lectures, study groups, and research work in the library and media-room. The participants learn about resources to assist them in teaching about Islam more effectively. They study Qur'an and Hadith with Muslim scholars who have strong academic or traditional credentials, and are able to relate easily with a variety of North American educators.

Applications are reviewed with an emphasis on effectiveness as an educator, a commitment to put into practice the materials covered at the Institute, the ability to influence or change curriculum development, and professional development.

Credits: Three Graduate Credits are available at nominal cost through New Mexico Highlands University. Those who wish to take advantage of these optional credits can register on-site during the program. There will be no additional academic responsibilities for those who register.

Institute costs: Participants pay for their travel and incidental expenses. The Institute provides required books, supplementary materials, room and board, and program transportation.

The application deadline: For best consideration, please apply no later than the fourth Friday in March.  Applications will be accepted and reviewed beyond this date as space permits.  Applicants will be notified of acceptance within ten days of receipt of their application.
