Life at the Dar al Islam Campus
The Dar al Islam campus is anchored around a mosque and an educational complex built on a hilly plateau across from the historic village of Abiquiu in Northern New Mexico. The original adobe buildings were designed by the world-renowned architect, Hassan Fathy. The school building has been modified and is used for institutes, seminars, retreats, and workshops focused on Islamic learning, spirituality, and the arts.
Location
The Dar al Islam Campus is located in the Chama River valley across from the historic village of Abiquiu, about 25 miles North of Española and about 60 miles North of Santa Fe. You can find out more about the village of Abiquiu by visiting the website of El Pueblo de Abiquiu Library and Cultural Center here.
At around 6,000 feet in elevation, the area has four distinct seasons. Winter days are mostly dry, sunny, and brisk and nights are much cooler and sometimes freezing. Early spring days are arid and windy with dust swirls. Late spring is usually pleasant and calm. Summer is warm in the morning and hot in the afternoon, with occasional afternoon thunderstorms. The fall has pleasant day temperatures and cool nights.
“This is one of the pristine and tranquil spaces in North America. We welcome you to learn more about our site, including how to schedule retreats, conferences, and tours.”
